If one was to take five forty-something musicians, each with
their own corporate careers and combine the stress that they collectively
deal with on a daily basis and set it to music the final result would be
Mid-Life Crisis. This band has found a way to cope with that knotty little
problem called middle age through the music that they have personally originated
called Baby Boomer Rock. It started for them in 1994 when a show was scheduled
for a band that was no longer in existence. Determined to keep the show
on the road they hastily formed the current line-up to play their most memorable
gig during a rainstorm on a boat on Lake Michigan. Taking time out from
their busy routines to play music, Mid-Life Crisis is a feast of Hawaiian
shirts (the only apparel the will fit comfortably over their expanding waistlines)
topped with graying hair. With soulful sax and driving drums in addition
to two guitars, bass and the vocal contribution of all members their gigs
are all about fun and stress relief. And their are prizes to be won, too,
that is IF you can guess their collective weight and ages. Despite their
comical looks they have an interesting, powerful sound.
For the past three years, Mid-Life Crisis has been playing
oldies and have established themselves as a sixties cover band. They have
played mainly in the suburbs at venues like City Limits in Elgin, the Marriott
Lincolnshire, Rolling Lanes in Countryside, Kamms in Westmont and various
private parties and corporate events for crowds mainly in the age range
of late 20,s-30,s. Their set list has included a variety of cover tunes
in the vein of the Commitments, the Blues Brothers, Van Morrison, Delbert
McClinton and CCR but eventually they realized that it was time for a change.
Weary of listening to and playing the same old oldies all the time they
began writing their original material early this year, thus the creation
of Baby Boomer Rock.
For the Mid-Life Crisis, Baby Boomer Rock is a unique musical
voice that combines 60,s roots rock n, roll with lyrics reflecting Baby
Boomer experiences. The Mid-Life Crisis debut EP four song cassette, entitled
"Weekend Warriors contains songs with the great old sound that they
grew up with but the new twist that it is now possible for the music to
grow with them. You don,t need to be middle-aged to relate to a song like
"Over Rated, which is an ironic commentary on kids, work and wives...
tell you what Bossman-work is over rated! is a comment that just about everyone
had made at some point in time. The other songs on the EP include "I
Am A Warrior, about a daydream of fighting furious battles while sitting
in yet ANOTHER work meeting, "Street Corner Nights, a fond reminiscence
of hanging out on street corners as a teen-ager in the late sixties, and
"Natural Born Renegade about a different, kind of woman who knows that
at age 45, life has only begun. They intend to release a full length CD
"Second Adulthood in January.
There is a nitch for Mid-Life Crisis and Baby Boomer Rock
since very little is being aimed at the Baby Boomer Generation other than
the true oldies. And you don,t necessarily need to be having a mid-life
crisis to enjoy the music of Mid-Life Crisis!
